Graze “WoodF”

The pairing of Adam Marshall and Christian Andersen has proven to be a fruitful one over the past two years. Debuting as Graze with a standout self-titled EP in 2013, the two producers have gone on to issue two LPs and a number of additional 12″s together since then, with each of the project’s various efforts landing via Marshall’s own New Kanada imprint. “WoodF” is not directly tied to any one release, but instead is a track the pair had “been sitting on for a while” and have elected to give away to XLR8R readers while Marshall and Andersen continue to diligently work on new material. Featuring the snapping, full-bodied rhythms and sweeping, sun-kissed arrangements which helped make its debut EP so effective, Graze’s latest outing is a pleasant reminder of why the duo’s prolific run has been such a rewarding one to follow since it began two years ago.

Listen to a New Track from Lapalux’s Upcoming Sophomore LP

Back in January, UK beatmaker Stuart Howard (a.k.a. Lapalux) announced that he had a new album in the works for Flying Lotus‘ Brainfeeder label, sharing the LP’s slow-burning lead single, “Closure,” in the process. Now, with the Lustmore LP’s release date fast approaching, Howard has shared a second single from the album in “Don’t Mean a Thing,” a more beat-driven, floor-ready iteration of Lapalux’s craft that still retains all of the sultry, textured atmosphere of the previous single.

The Lustmore LP will arrive on April 7; in the meantime, Lapalux’s “Don’t Mean a Thing” production can be streamed in full using the player below.

Rights “Cold in the B”

“Cold in the B” is the sleek opening cut from The Meaning, the debut EP from Rights, a new collaborative project from Brooklyn producers Braille (who recently dropped a solo EP via Friends of Friends) and Seafloor. Beginning with a series of rich piano chords and delicately stretched vocal samples, “Cold in the B” builds into a bass-fueled hybrid, one drenched in a multitude of machine-made chords, striped with detailed percussion, and—eventually—boosted from the bottom by a deep, resonant bassline. One of seven tracks set to appear on The Meaning (which includes a remix from fellow NYC artist Photay), Rights’ “Cold in the B” can be downloaded below; Braille’s and Seafloor’s collaborative EP is out today via the Montreal-based Infinite Machine label.

Kompakt Announces Pop Ambient LP Series, Details First Record from Leandro Fresco

Launched in 2001, Kompakt‘s annual Pop Ambient compilations have showcased a wide range of beatless compositions over the years, focusing on experimental field recordings, lush synth pop, and meandering new-age pieces all with a slight eye towards the pop end of the spectrum (and hand-picked by Kompakt co-founder Wolfgang Voigt). In recent years, the amount of submissions for the collections have been “overflowing” according to the label, who has in turn decided to launch a Pop Ambient LP series featuring music from artists whose work fits within the cannon of the long-running compilation series’ unique take on ambient composition.

Launching the album series’ run will be the El Reino Invisible LP, a 10-track record from Buenos Aires-bred artist Leandro Fresco. Fresco first appeared on Kompakt in 2002 with the Amor International 12″, which followed behind outings for German label Traum Schallplatten and the short-lived Argentinian imprint Fragil Discos. Said to have furthered mastered his craft since first appearing on the label, Fresco’s El Reino Invisible LP is described as “an enticing and sophisticated narrative wrapped in gorgeous synth explorations—a slowly evolving wall of synthesized textures that certainly knows its way around pop-infused catchiness, but also operates as a collection of profoundly personal mnemonics.”

Fresco’s forthcoming album will launch Kompakt’s Pop Ambient LP series when it lands on March 2; the record’s artwork has been included above, while its tracklist can be found below. Furthermore, the El Reino Invisible LP is currently available to preview here.

Actress Shares New Track

Late last week, UK producer—and former XLR8R podcast contributor—Actress and British visual artist William Stein presented Half/Living, a joint art exhibition at London’s Slade Research Centre. Now, a piece of Actress’ audio contribution to the effort, “NMMG,” can be streamed in full.

Following its broadcast of the full hour-long sound piece composed by Actress for Half/Living, NTS Radio has uploaded one seven-minute component of the installation’s audio portion to its SoundCloud. A meandering techno composition streaked with ghostly textures and retuned samples, Actress’ “NMMG” production can be heard in its entirety below.

Hivern Discs Preps Debut EP from INIT; Preview It Now

John Talabot’s Hivern Discs label has tapped Frankfurt duo INIT to deliver its debut EP for the imprint next month, to be followed later in the year by a debut full-length album from the new production project. Consisting of Frankfurt artists Benedikt Frey (whose has released with labels such as Mule Musiq and Live at Robert Johnson in the past) and Nadia D’Alo, INIT’s first release will land in the form of a five-track untitled EP which will feature two original works from the pair alongside remixes from C.P.I., Willie Burns, and Cliff Lothar.

Said to find Frey taking his “cosmic, plodding, and house-related analogue experimentations… and penchant for moody kraut-influenced psychedelia and atmospheric synth explorations” into new territory with the help of D’Alo, INIT’s debut EP can be previewed below before it sees its official release on March 9 via the steadily growing Hivern Discs outpost.

Sinerise “Calling (Submerse Remix)”

For its third release, the NYC/LA-based Youngbloods label has tapped Vancouver singer and producer Sinerise to deliver the four-track Calling EP. Built around Sinerise’s skipping song of the same title, the record is also set to feature remixes from Brooklyn’s Archie Pelago trio as well as former XLR8R podcast contributor Submerse, whose take on “Calling’ is offered here. As we’ve come to expect from the prolific beatmaker, Submerse has delivered another high quality rework, transforming Sinerise’s original into an effortless head-nodder with plenty of rich Rhodes chords, twinkling arpeggios, and swung percussion pieces to go around. Submerse’s new remix can be grabbed below where a full stream of the forthcoming Calling EP can also be heard ahead of the record’s official release (in both vinyl and digital formats) tomorrow.

Premiere: Listen to a New Remix from Beautiful Swimmers

Late last year DC’s fledgling 1432 R imprint issued the Qen Sew EP, a five-track digital record from E.R. (a.k.a. Ethiopian Records), a producer based in the Ethiopian city of Addis Ababa. Now, the label has repackaged E.R.’s Qen Sew EP for an upcoming vinyl release, which will include a new remix of the record’s title track from the pairing of Future Times co-head Maxmillion Dunbar and Ari Goldman together under their Beautiful Swimmers moniker.

In its original form, “Qen Sew” is a ghostly track which comes streaked with reverberant chords and snippets of traditional Ethiopian music. Now placed in the hands of the Beautiful Swimmers pair, E.R.’s production is reshaped into an altogether more buoyant affair; wrapped in aqua-hued chords, the rework lurches forward with an off-kilter stomp, adding various pieces of stumbling percussion to the remix’s rhythmic base as long-winded pads and warm synth chords streak across its six-minute run.

Officially set to land on the vinyl edition of E.R.’s Qen Sew EP tomorrow, Beautiful Swimmers’ new remix can be streamed in full below, where the upcoming record’s complete tracklist has also been included.

Xosar Preps New EP, Shares Previews

Sheela Rahman (a.k.a. Xosar) is set to debut on Rotterdam-based outpost Pinkman this spring with a two-track 12″. The prolific US-born producer’s upcoming World of Illusion EP is billed as “mystic techno” and slated for release in early April, around the same time as her full-length for Opal Tapes offshoot Black Opal. As Juno Plus reports, Xosar performed the record’s a-side during a live set on Tim Sweeney’s Beats in Space radio show, while b-side offering “Phasers of Eden” first aired on a podcast for Clubbing Spain back in 2013. Both tracks can be previewed below before World of Illusion officially lands in a few months.

!K7 Relaunches ‘DJ-Kicks’ 12″ Series, Details John Talabot Remix EP

Germany’s !K7 label has announced that it will relaunch its DJ-Kicks 12″ series, for which previous DJ-Kicks mix contributors enlist fellow producers to rework exclusive original material. Heading off the initiative is John Talabot, whose “swooning and balmy” entry into the DJ-Kicks series was released back in November 2013. The forthcoming EP features three new versions of his featured track “Without You” from veteran producer Thomas Melchoir (appearing here under his Melchoir Productions Ltd. alias), Oskar Offermann, and Mistakes Are Okay.

Without You sees an official release on March 23, and while no previews have been shared as of yet, the EP’s artwork and complete tracklist can be found below.
