Tessela‘s Rough 2 EP will serve as the UK producer’s first official release of 2014 when it drops next week; ahead of its release, the three-track effort can now be streamed in full. Rough 2 again finds the artist born Ed Russell returning to R&S, the label through which he issued last year’s Nancy’s Pantry EP as well as “Hackney Parrot” (a tune we named as one of the Best Tracks of 2013). On his latest effort, Russell presents a trio of unhinged club tracks that focus on grinding textures and unconventional rhythmic assemblages.

Officially out on July 14, Tessela’s Rough 2 EP can be streamed in full over on Resident Advisor.

A spate of distinctive mixes have surfaced today, including sessions from rising Detroit producer MGUN, West Coast production duo Nguzunguzu (pictured above), and Hotflush label head Scuba. Even better, all three are available for free download.

First up, Manuel Gonzales (a.k.a. MGUN) has made a name for himself with releases for reputable labels such as The Trilogy Tapes, Don’t Be Afraid, and Kyle Hall’s Wild Oats, and as part of the Underground Resistance collective’s live show. His latest mix was originally submitted for London-based Digital Tsunami (unfortunately without a tracklist), and can be heard and downloaded below.

Made up of Asma Maroof and Daniel Pineda, Nguzunguzu first surfaced in 2010 with the Mirage EP, and have gone on to lead the surge of high-octane club music that melts together R&B, hip-hop, juke, bass, and more. This new mix, posted below, highlights ambassadors of the Night Slugs and Fade to Mind crews, and a full tracklist can be found over at Thump.

Rounding things off, Scuba follows the recent release of his Phenix 2 EP (the second in a trilogy of EPs on his own Hotflush label) with a new mix for the corresponding podcast series. The hour-long recording is characterized by “underwater tones and gritty, hedonistic techno” from the likes of Levon Vincent, Rrose, and Dario Zenker, and can be streamed and downloaded below, with a full tracklist available here.

American producer Machinedrum (a.k.a. Travis Stewart) has teamed up with drummer Lane Barrington in the latest edition of Resident Advisor’s RA Sessions video series. The pair has been touring its live show, which is based around Stewart’s 2013 concept album for Ninja Tune, Vapor City, for some time, but this new episode of RA Sessions reportedly aims to “capture some of the magic” of the duo’s performance at Resident Advisor’s SXSW party earlier this year. In the video, posted below, Stewart and Barrington perform a trio of jungle and footwork-influenced tracks, starting off with ambient opener “Vizion” and moving through “Center Your Love” to closing cut “SeeSea.”

In December 2014, storied Berlin club Berghain will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary. As a prelude, an exhibition of works by visual artists is planned for later this summer. Entitled “10,” the exhibition stands as an homage to artists who have been closely affiliated with the club since its inception. Their projects will reportedly be designed for the exhibition space at Halle am Berghain (which is only occasionally open to the public), and will take up themes such as “club culture, the phenomenon of the mass, non-elitism, cult of the body and tattoos, neoclassism, and the ruinous rawness of the building.” Among those slated to show works are Raster-Noton label co-founder Carsten Nicolai (a.k.a. Alva Noto) and Berghain gatekeeper and photographer Sven Marquardt, as well as Norbert Bisky, Ali Kepenek, Piotr Nathan, Friederike von Rauch, Sarah Schönfeld, Viron Erol Vert, and Marc Brandenburg.

“10” opens on August 7, and runs through the end of the month.

Back in May, Delroy Edwards offered up a batch of exclusive remixes, edits, and instrumentals for free download via his own L.A. Club Resource label. Now, the increasingly prolific producer and L.I.E.S. affiliate has compiled a new beats and hip-hop-influenced collection called Slowed Down Funk Vol. II: Hate Is Beneath Me. The two mixtapes follow Edwards’ recent releases under his DJ Punisher alias, and his cassettes for The Death of Rave and Reel Torque labels. This new 22-track collection is available to stream below, and can be downloaded for free here. Limited-edition cassettes are also on offer via Gene’s Liquor.

NYC label Styles Upon Styles will release the debut full-length from Gut Nose in September. Following the release of the Vicetopia 12″ for the label in June, the largely anonymous producer’s debut full-length is said to “encapsulate urban blight through two seamless sides of seething dystopian malaise.” Titled Filthy City, the record will be presented as two continuous sides, with the LP’s first half focusing on dusty and refracted beatwork, while its second half offers 29 minutes of gritty dancefloor productions. Furthermore, Filthy City‘s a-side is said to be the result of a single-take performance, while its b-side is the result of a live mix of original productions by Gut Nose.

Described as a record that “mutates hip-hop genetics and club chromosomes into a heaving parasite,” no audio previews have surfaced for Filthy City, which will serve as the first full-length record to appear in the Styles Upon Styles label’s catalog when it drops on September 9. For now, the forthcoming record’s artwork can be seen above, and its full trackist has been included below.

Drum & bass icon and Metalheadz boss Goldie will helm the next edition in Ministry of Sound‘s ongoing Masterpiece mix album series, which has previously featured the likes of Carl Craig, François K, and David Rodigan, among others. Like all editions in the Masterpiece series, Goldie’s will be split into three separate discs: The Alpha, Journeyman, and Headzville. Featuring the likes of Radiohead, Terry Callier, and Soul II Soul, the Alpha disc will highlight the veteran producer’s earliest inspirations, while Journeyman will explore classic drum & bass sounds, and lastly, Headzville will feature tracks from the Metalheadz label’s sizable catalog.

Goldie’s contribution to the Masterpiece series will drop on August 18, with its full tracklist expected to arrive in the coming weeks. The mix album follows last year’s release of The Alchemist: The Best of Goldie 1992-2012, which looked back on the iconic UK talent’s 20 years as an active producer—our in-depth Rewind interview/feature with Goldie around the record’s release can be read here.
