Said to have been filmed over the summer of 2013, the upcoming Looking for the Perfect Beat documentary aims to chronicle Los Angeles’ renowned beat music community by offering a “fly-on-the-wall perspective” of the production process behind some of the scene’s most essential members. Said to be portrayed as a “24-hour tour throughout the city,” the full-length doc visits the creative spaces of Teebs, Jonwayne, Baths, Daedelus (pictured above), Ras G, Matthewdavid, Thundercat, the Gaslamp Killer, TOKiMONSTA, and others throughout the course of the film, providing some insight into each artist’s process as well as their place within the context of LA’s beatmaker movement. The film is set to debut this Sunday as part of Los Angeles’ Downtown Film Festival, while the full trailer for Looking for the Perfect Beat can be watched below, though no further screenings or plans to release the film have been revealed at this time.

After his sophomore LP In My World was officially dropped last week via FlyLo’s Brainfeeder label, Leaving label head and recent contributor to our Artist Tips series Matthewdavid (a.k.a. Matthew McQueen) has unveiled a whimsical new video to accompany his sophomore album’s title track. Directed by Miko Revereza, the psychedelic clip portrays eccentrically-clad McQueen playfully rap-singing to the camera as various floral and color-drenched backdrops sway along with the track’s soulful sonics. The video for “In My World” can be watched in full below.

Baton Rouge-based producer Suicideyear (a.k.a. James Prudhomme) has announced plans to release a new EP via the Oneohtrix Point Never-curated Software imprint this fall. Titled Remembrance, the eight-track record (which will serve as Suicideyear’s debut on the label) was written and produced between Florida and Louisiana, and is said to see Prudhomme “reflecting on themes of love and loss against the backdrop of the deep American South he calls home.” The artist goes on to explain how “Remembrance deals with letting go,” and that “the name stems from my attempt to accept the loss and difficulty of the past year without dwelling, and instead trying to move on.”

Before Remembrance sees its official release on September 24, Prudhomme has shared patient album cut “Hope Building A” paired with a serene video directed by Serena Forghieri.The video can be watched below where the complete tracklist and art for Suicideyear’s upcoming EP have also been included.

Komon (pictured above) and Appleblim have revealed details for their upcoming second collaborative release on Will Saul’s Aus imprint. The pair (real names Kieran Lomax and Laurence Osbourne, respectively) first surfaced on the label back in January of this year with the Jupiter EP, before crafting a single for Osbourne’s own Apple Pips outlet and remixing the likes of Bonobo and Paul Woolford. On the duo’s forthcoming effort, the UK producers reportedly “expand on their canon, and turn in four introspective explorations rich with granular textures and propulsive low-end grooves.”

Komon & Appleblim’s forthcoming Motion Blur EP will see a release on August 4. For now, the record’s title track can be heard in full below, where a tracklist has also been included.

UK producers Julio Bashmore and Hyetal have again combined forces as Velour, putting together a two-track 12″ which will see a release via Bashmore’s Broadwalk imprint later this month, but which can be streamed in full now. “The Tower” b/w “Plato’s Retreat” is said to see the pair return to the label with an “erotically charged single… influenced by the hedonistic golden age of 1970s swing culture, but with a flirtatious hint of ’90s French house.” Set to see an official release on July 28, Velour’s upcoming funk-laced 12″ can be streamed in full below. Longstanding Hyperdub affiliate Ikonika has detailed a forthcoming EP for the label, slated for official release at the end of the summer. Titled Position (artwork above), the record reportedly exhibits “an almost 3-D sense of contrast,” striking a balance between “dusty, old-school sounds and shinier new ones.” The original tracks on the record capitalize on the London producer’s recent touring experience and are built for big-room dancing, while Perc and Alex Deamonds have been enlisted to rework tracks from Ikonika’s 2013 album Aerotropolis—”Mega Church” and “You Won’t Find it Here” for the upcoming effort.

Position drops on August 25 in both vinyl and digital formats. In the meantime, Ikonika’s own VIP edit of “You Won’t Find it Here” can be heard below, where the forthcoming record’s tracklist has also been included.

Opening, the forthcoming ambitious visual album from Christopher Willits, is set to arrive via Ghostly in September. Ahead of its release, the California-based electronic musician has now shared the full video and audio for “Clear,” the angelic first track to surface from the upcoming effort. Appearing early on in Opening, “Clear” spends its first 120 seconds building an intoxicating atmosphere of rich ambient textures, clean sub-bass, and far-off melodies, which come accompanied by tranquil images of sun reflecting off of a series of delicate waves. As Willits’ composition begins to pick up, its sparse drums and occasional guitar lines are met by a number of peaceful images—picturesque cliffs and sunburnt horizons are overlaid atop a single female silhouette and, eventually, a rocky shoreline.
