Vladislav Delay to Launch Vinyl-Only Label with New EP

Longstanding Finnish producer Vladislav Delay (real name Sasu Ripatti) has announced that he will launch a new vinyl-only label, Ripatti, with the forthcoming inaugural release set to come from the label head himself. As Resident Advisor reports, Vladislav Delay sees the label as “something like a studio diary,” to which he adds, “It’s a chance for me to follow [my] progression over a certain [period of] time, but also to build a coherent musical catalog.” The label’s first release will find the producer operating simply as Ripatti—a new handle which he tells RA will serve as his “new club music project”—to be followed by releases from Heisenberg and Ripatti as his more familiar Vladislav Delay moniker, as well as additional collaborations with Max Loderbauer and Teeth down the line. The Ripatti label’s inaugural EP—conveniently entitled Ripatti and featuring just two tracks, “#39” and “#24″—will see a release on September 16.

Watch Todd Edwards’ Live Mix for Boiler Room

Long-standing live event series Boiler Room has been incrementally releasing videos from last month’s Pitchfork Festival afterparty in Chicago—which so far has included a set from Jacque Greene and DJ Rashad‘s appearance with more of the Teklife crew. The latest offering to hit the internet is a live mix from veteran DJ/producer Todd Edwards. Over the course of his hour-long DJ set, the garage stalwart drops a slew of bouncy, club-ready tunes with plenty of sultry, re-constructed vocal melodies—not the least of which is the mixmaster’s classic collaboration with Daft Punk, “Face to Face.” Todd Edwards’ DJ set for Boiler Room can be seen, streamed, and downloaded via the players below.

Tim Hecker “Virginal II”*Kranky *

There are few artists who can bend and twist audio like Tim Hecker can. On “Virginal II”—the first cut to surface from the man’s forthcoming LP for Kranky—the Canadian producer begins with a series of stringed notes which hit with a percussive force, as if they were struck by a mallet or hammer. Hecker then folds this melodic clatter into sheets of crispy noise and stretched reverberations, seamlessly shifting the track into a more abstract audio realm and allowing the listener to become fully enveloped by the slow-shifting drones, pensively rising arpeggios, and gorgeous tonal collage which has been assembled. Still, the power of Hecker’s work is not necessarily in the details, but instead in the overall feeling his compositions impart on the listeners; in the case of “Virginal II,” we’re left with a welcome sense of serenity. The rest of Hecker’s upcoming Virgins LP (artwork above) is set to drop on October 14.

Watch Roska Build a Beat in 10 Minutes

After sharing news of his forthcoming EP for Rinse just last week, London mainstay Roska has stepped up as the latest producer to take on FACT TV‘s Against the Clock challenge, building a beat in under 10 minutes for the ongoing video series. Almost solely utilizing Logic (and a MicroKorg for playing in MIDI notes), Roska builds a characteristically skittering beat while commenting on the sirens and strange noises which come from outside his studio. He even goes on to explain some of the components of his setup and detail a few special techniques after the challenge is through. Roska’s full attempt to go Against the Clock can be watched below.

Download a Mix from Ben Klock’s Recent Berghain Appearance

Earlier this month, German techno stalwart Ben Klock delivered a three-hour DJ set as part of the “Ostgut Ton resident’s night” at Berlin’s infamous Berghain club, and now, a large portion of the audio from Klock’s mixing efforts that evening has been made available as a free download. Almost two hours of Klock’s DJ set from his August 10 appearance at the fabled nightclub have been uploaded to SoundCloud, albeit with no tracklist. Nonetheless, it’s a solid 100-plus minutes of efficient and absorbing techno for listeners to take in for free, which can be done via the player below.

Konrad Wehrmeister “Schniek”*SVS*

Munich/Berlin-based techno producer Konrad Wehrmeister has contributed a track to Polyrhythmic Series #2, a compilation from the relatively new SVS label. (We got a sneak peek of the first installment of the series back in June.) “Schniek” is a minimal slice of dub-techno, with a steady motorik pulse underpinning the track’s dense polyrhythms and icy ambience. Over the course of its 10-minute runtime, Wehrmeister’s production builds from the eerie abstraction of its opening moments to something more closely resembling a conventional club tune, combining the best of both worlds. The rest of the Polyrhythmic Series #2 arrives on September 6 on both digital and limited vinyl formats, but can be previewed before then, after the jump.

RVNG Readies Debut LP from Gardland

It has been quite a solid year for forward-thinking Brooklyn label RVNG, having already released excellent LPs from the likes of Blondes, Maxmillion Dunbar, and Stellar OM Source. And the record hub is now set to continue its winning streak with the debut album from a lesser-known name in the world of experimental techno, Australian duo Gardland. On October 29, the two hardware-obsessed producers born Alex Murray and Mark Smith will issue their 11-track Syndrome Syndrome LP, a release which is said to have been recorded “in a small room over a series of slavishly inspired sessions” and is described with words like “erratic,” “volatile,” “provocative,” and “psychosomatic.” A decidedly strange and almost disturbing trailer for Syndrome Syndrome has been shared ahead of its release, and can be seen below, where the artwork and tracklist for Gardland’s upcoming album is included.
