Chaos In The CBD Prepare New EP

There’s a new Chaos In The CBD EP on the way, titled Orange Blank / Green Dove.

The two-track release is Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales’ first release of 2019, and comes after a quiet 2018 that saw the Multiverse EP. We’re told to expect a “slightly different vibe” and that the “experience will vary depending on your settings. If you’re in a bad place with bad people, you won’t feel a thing.”

It will be the sixth release on the duo’s In Dust We Trust label.

Orange Blank / Green Dove will land on February 15, with clips over at Deejay.

Markus Sommer Details Debut Album

Markus Sommer will release his debut album later this month, titled Untitled Gemütlichkeiten

The 14-track outing is the Pager Records co-founder’s first solo outing since 2017’s Mystic EP, and stems from a series of studio sessions that led to “eight tracks with the same mood.” This organic starting point then planted the foundation for the rest of the LP. We’re told that the aesthetics encompass jazz, house, minimal, garage, and techno.

Hailing from Offenbach, near Frankfurt, Sommer started DJing in 2009. He had his first club gig in 2010 and founded Pager Records with Phil Evans in 2015. He has a string of releases with the likes of Imprints, Sensual Records, Twig, and Colt Music with his musical style full of groove-laden basslines and smooth melodies.

Gemütlichkeit translates to “coziness,” reflective of an album that makes you feel warm inside whilst also making you want to get up and move.

The album will be a vinly-only release.

Setaoc Mass Returns with Two-Part EP

Sam Coates (a.k.a Setaoc Mass) has lined up a two-part EP titled 53 Degrees North to mark the seventh release on his  SK_eleven label.

53 Degrees North Part One focuses its efforts on four-to-the-floor club-centric music the label head is renowned for. All four tracks are emblazoned with his signature, disparate pairing of light and dark sound palettes glued beneath rich, atmospheric textures and hypnotism—all the while keeping its muscular club chassis gleaming beneath.

Meanwhile, Part Two sees Coates revealing more of his experimental side. The second cut pays homage to past influences of the producer as he floats between ambient, IDM, and electro cuts with ease, all rife with emotion and passion.

The Manchester-born, Berlin-based artist last appeared on SK_eleven with last year’s Solid Void EP. More recently’s he’s released on Figure and Soma Quality Recordings.

Kassiel “Duty1 Duty2”

Last week, Italian duo Kassiel—made up of multi-instrumentalist Federico Bisozzi and DJ-producer/drummer Andrea Normanno—released a new self-titled EP via fellow Italian label White Forest Records.

With just a modest selection of tracks released, the duo have already gained support from scene heavyweights such as Throwing Snow, Catching Flies, and R&S boss Renaat Vandepapeliere. Their sound is deep, emotive, and cinematic, and as likely to lead you into dreamlike hypnosis as it is dancefloor hysteria. The duo’s latest offering, Kassiel, stays true to this ethos with seven tracks that flow through textural ambient pastures, ethereal beat cuts, and transfixing trip-hop.

Kassiel is out now and can be picked up here, with bonus cut “Duty1 Duty2” available as a download via WeTransfer below.

Sonic Next on Western Lore

Jasper Byrne (a.k.a Sonic) will release a new double EP on Western Lore, 110174

The release follows Byrne’s 2018 110174 mixtape and appearances on Blunted Breaks Vol.1, and marks his return to “dance music proper.”

Byrne spent the late ’90s and ’00s dropping releases on pretty much every legendary drum & bass label going, among them Reinforced, Metalheadz, Renegade Hardware, Formation, Virus, Soul:R, and his own Space Recordings, before mysteriously disappearing only to re-emerge years later as a computer games developer and soundtrack artist. His best-known work in video games is the 2D horror game “Lone Survivor,” which he developed almost entirely on his own. He also contributed music to the game “Hotline Miami.”

Before his foray into game development, he also worked under the alias of Accidental Heroes along with his long-time collaborative partner, Silver (a.k.a Dean Fletcher).

Byrne recently connected with label head Dead Man’s Chest at a gig in LA, leading to this EP. We’re told that 110174 blends techno, footwork, LA bass, hardcore, synth-wave, and drum & bass under a loose jungle techno framework.

The release follows Response & Pliskin’s Bureaucracy on the Bristol label.

Records purchased directly from www.westernlore.co.uk come with a unique LORE005 sticker and a limited edition trading card. Also available and exclusive to Bandcamp is a signed Risograph print of the cover art by Alex Eveson, limited edition of 200.

1800HaightStreet Return to Lobster Theremin’s Mörk

Canadian duo 1800HaightStreet will return to Lobster Theremin’s Mörk with a four-track EP that segues between aquatic dub techno, thundering drum ‘n’ stab jams, and synth-heavy epics.

1800HaightStreet last appeared on Mörk with 2015’s Heldled, and they released their debut album, Endless, on parent label Lobster Theremin in 2017. It will be Mork’s 18th release.

Groaning whale song pads float and dissolve amongst white noise environments. Percussion bobbles around like flotsam between a netted structure of classic drum machine workouts. Siren-esque synths call out from the surface. Drift away in techno bliss.— Mörk

Puce Mary & Jesse Sanes (a.k.a JH1.FS3) Sign to Dais Records

Frederikke Hoffmeier (a.k.a Puce Mary) and Jesse Sanes (a.k.a Liebestod) will release a new JH1.FS3 album on Dais Records.

Trials and Tribulations follows the experimental duo’s 2017 Loyalty album and is mostly improvised. “Using the seeds of improvisation as their root construct, the duo work without code, vocabulary or genre,” the label explains. “Instead, they systematically work as individuals in tandem, using disparate and varied sounds and sources to create gauzy collages of ideas, sound, and visceral sense reaction.”

The album explores the relationship between space and time by reconfiguring the tendrils and fissures that bind them. We’re told to expect “percussive oscillations, descant vocals, and deconstructed patterns” that “create fields that vibrate, plunge, and drone.”

Puce Mary has released music on Posh Isolation and PAN, including last year’s The Drought LP. Sanes makes electronic music as Liebestod, and is also the lead singer of LA death metal band Kommand.

Black Taffy Album Next on Leaving Records

Donovan Jones, better known as Black Taffy, will release his Elder Mantis LP via LA’s Leaving Records next month.

Elder Mantis, his debut album, is the culmination of Black Taffy’s works thus far. At 12 tracks, it is a meditative and soothing listen, synthesizing the heavy warmth of deep bass with the melodic hum of harps and other stringed instruments. It follows 2018’s “Geraldine,” which is also included on this LP.

Jones is a composer and performer whose current focus lies in pairing ambient music with big bass and percussion. The first born son of Pentecostal music ministers, he grew up witnessing the power music has to induce trance and encourage spiritual awakening. Eventually drawing parallels between christianity, voodoo, and the occult, Jones left the former to immerse himself in the latter.

Sometimes performing with only vibraphone and cassette decks, he frequently employs the use of tape loops and other antiquated mediums to create pillowy worlds of wow and flutter.

Jones last appeared on Leaving with July’s Parlour Arcana cassette tape.
