Melbourne Duo Kllo Release New Ghostly Single

Kllo have today released a new single via Ghostly, titled “Potential.”

The release lands after the Melbourne duo’s Backwater album debut. We’re told that while Backwater signaled an “artistic coming-of-age,” Potential” confidently expresses where they’ve been since and hints at where they may head next.”

“We said all we needed to say in the last album,” adds Chloe Kaul. “It’s important that we capture these moments in time instead of staying in the past and living up to expectations.”

She and Simon Lam came upon the chords at a green room piano before a show in Amsterdam. It’s described as “their most tender and bittersweet composition to date,” and depicts the emotions of seeing a future with someone that never comes to be.

“Potential” is out now, with a full stream available below.

Varg Announces New Album and Fifth Chapter of ‘Nordic Flora’ Series

Varg will soon release a new album and the fifth chapter in his Nordic Flora series, this time on the Danish Posh Isolation imprint.

Posh Isolation founders, Loke Rahbek and Christian Stadsgaard, together Damien Dubrovnik, have seen many releases in the past from Varg, including Pt. 2 of the Nordic Flora Series, released on cassette.

The series really made a mark when he reached Pt. 3: Gore-Tex City, release on Varg’s own Northern Electronics (which he manages with Anthony Linell, formerly known as Abdullah Rashim). The album introduced Varg as a man of many collaborations as genre-bending tracks featured Yung Lean, Alessandro Cortini, Drew McDowall, the painter Chloe Wise, and AnnaMelina. Varg then curated an entire day of Berlin’s Atonal and brought the album to life on the stage. He also formed a strong creative bond with AnnaMelina as the two together now perform as FLORA.

Nordic Flora Series Pt. 5: Crush has a similar cast of characters including Chloe Wise, AnnaMelina, Vanity Productions, Ecco2k and more. The album will be released on 2×12” and digital formats and along with it there will be a unique tape release of Nordic Flora Series Pt. 4, available in a bundle with a t-shirt and the Crush 2xLP (only 100 cassettes available).

True to the Nordic Flora Series, the artwork comes from American multidisciplinary artist Cali Thornhill DeWitt.

Adeline ‘Beyond You’

Adeline is a Swedish producer, DJ, and live artist with a handful of releases under her belt on Kindisch, Culprit, and Resonance Records. In recent years she has spent time in New York, Milan, Berlin, London, and Ibiza, where she recently held a residency at Pacha’s Destino venue, Tox, and the Zoo Project, playing alongside the likes of AudioFly, DJ Tennis, and Blond:ish.

In support of an upcoming tour schedule that takes in performances at Zoo Project, Brunch In The Park, Dialogue, and Burning Man, Adeline has offered up an exclusive, unreleased cut as today’s XLR8R download. Across a six-and-a-half minute run time, the track beautifully flows through ethereal atmospheres and trippy, processed vocal lines, with a chunky low-end groove giving it highly effective dancefloor weight.

Premiere: Hear Two Gritty MPC Jams From Anticon Co-Founder Odd Nosdam

Odd Nosdam has shared two exclusives cuts from his forthcoming Lost Wigs of Ohio album.

Pulled from old DAT tapes recorded from 2000 to 2004 with an MPC2000, found records, Casio keyboard, and VHS tapes, Lost Wigs of Ohio touches on Nosdam’s work around his first solo album, No More Wig For Ohio, and outings as cLOUDDEAD and Reaching Quiet, among others. The 40 tracks on the LP feature all the Nosdam hallmarks that have made him such a loved figure in underground circles, namely gritty MPC grooves and hazy, warped melodies.

In support of the release, Nosdam has shared two cuts that served as the release’s starting point, as he explains:

“‘Earner’ and ‘Direct,’ back to back, served as my jump off for Lost Wigs Of Ohio. ‘Earner’ representing the more quirky, melodic stuff while ‘Direct’ is the more simple boom bap shit. I don’t remember making ‘Direct’ and hardly recall much about making ‘Earner’ other than most of its drums and samples were chopped and sequenced on an MPC2000. Some sounds were resampled on a Dr. Sample 202 to get that crusty, bit-crushed sound. A fresh drum break briefly pops in at the one-minute mark. I don’t remember who the break is by or why it’s in there in the first place. Speaking of breaks, the drums on ‘Direct’ are two of the most sampled breaks ever: Skull Snaps’ ‘It’s A New Day’ and ‘Impeach The President’ by The Honey Drippers (which I sampled from BDP’s ‘The Bridge Is Over’). No idea why or when I made ‘Direct’ but discovering it was revelatory. At the time, I’d been sitting on the bulk of the Lost Wigs material with no desire to do anything with the stuff but because ‘Direct’ had me so hyped on first listen, I felt compelled to start piecing it all together.”

The Lost Wigs of Ohio will be released on June 1 via Nosdam’s imprint Burnco Recs, and available across digital platforms worldwide, along with a run of limited-edition cassettes. You can pre-order the release here, with “Earner” and “Direct” streaming in full below.

Mary Lattimore Shares New Album Cut

With her Hundreds of Days LP set for release this Friday via Ghostly International, LA-based composer/harpist Mary Lattimore has shared a new track, “Never Saw Him Again.”

Lattmore’s solo debut, The Withdrawing Room, was released in 2013 on Desire Path Recordings, and she last appeared on Ghostly with March 2016’s At The Dam LP. She’s now set to return with Hundreds Of Days, recorded mostly during a residency at the Headlands Center For The Arts, in the hills outside of San Francisco.

We’re told that the album “draws on her move away from the East Coast, and the distinct shift in mood from one place to another.”

“Never Saw Him Again” gives another glimpse of the blissful and singular approach to harp-playing, conjuring vivid and compelling soundscapes.

Mandar Drop New EP, ‘String Theory’

Mandar have dropped a new two-track EP, String Theory

The release arrives more than a year after the release of their debut album. We’re told to expect two “full-sided loud cuts of pure club madness.” The title track has summer vibes written all over it; while the flipside “Poisoned Words” is a “sexy groover,” the label explains.

Mandar was formed in 2013. It’s the project of Nick Putman, Charlie Naffah, and Samuel André Madsen. Of the three, Naffah is the most well known; as Lazare Hoche, he’s gained a reputation for dancefloor geared, deeper-than-deep-house records and reissues of classic, underappreciated French house 12″s through his eponymous label. He also co-runs the Oscillat Music label with his two partners in Mandar, who’ve each built reputations of their own with respected releases and labels Vigenère and Delaphine.

Tracklisting

01. String Theory

02. Poisoned Words

String Theory EP is out now via Oscillat Music, with clips below.

LUCES ‘Revelation’

LUCES have returned with their new EP on Needwant, titled Revelation.

Opener and title track “Revelation” builds into pure euphoria, with scintillating pads textured and futuristic sounds, before dissolving into the breakdown. “Who’s To Say” opens with tribal influence sounds and breaks into a deep melodic cut with an infectious groove.

This is the third time these two artists, Plastic Plates and Amtrac, have collaborated.

Pow-Low “Ghost Note”

Back on May 2, Pow-Low released his latest EP, Ghost Note, on PSYCLE.

Ghost Note will continue a fruitful partnership between Pow-Low and PSYCLE., one that has seen him release four standout singles on the label—it also follows his collaboration with award-winning film score composer Rainer Oleak back in January. A trained jazz musician who studied under Pierre Favre, Pow-Low’s tracks are injected with soul and a subtle artistry that is rare in club-based music, and Ghost Note presents this beautifully with three funk-filled house cuts.

Following through dubby opener “Ghost Note” to the chunky grooves of “Cargo Cult” and the closing track’s complex minimal-techno energy, the EP is sure to provide dancefloor tools across all hours of the night—and day, too.

In support of the release, you can grab the EP’s title track via WeTransfer below, with the EP available here

This is another hugely accomplished EP of richly produced house sounds from PowLow.
