Concret is a duo made up of Italo-Mexican musician, DJ, and artist Diego Angelico Escobar and Italian sound-designer, keyboardist, and producer Q-pha. Mayan Warrior regulars, Concret play and produce a deep and hypnotic strain of electronic music that has seen them land on Roam Recordings, Phisica, and Nein Records. For today’s XLR8R download, Concret have offered up “Closer,” a groove-laden cut in support of the upcoming Closer event at Papaya Playa Project in Tulum. Styles Upon Styles Share New Remix From Jackie

Last November, Styles Upon Styles released Chapel Master, the four-track debut from Diamond Terrifier Cipher.

Essentially a supergroup, Diamond Terrifier Cipher joins NYC artist Sam Hillmer’s Diamond Terrifier project with the Cipher, a band comprising Michael Beharie on guitar, synths, and effects; Cibo Matto co-founder Miho Hatori on vocals; and studio wizard and guitarist Don Devore of Collapsing Scenery. For their debut, the band present a collection of music that defies categorization, combining elements of free jazz with drone, punk, and bass music.

Alongside the four originals, NYC’s PTP crew also provide four warped deconstructions from Jackie, Dis Fig, Celestial Trax, and Geng, bringing the originals into mind-bending territories as a vinyl exclusive.

In support of the release, Styles Upon Styles have shared a full stream of Jackie’s deep and hypnotic remix of the EP’s title track, available via the player below. You can pick up the EP here.

Premiere: Hear a Beautifully Melodic Dancefloor Cut from Will Saul and Tee Mango

Will Saul and Tee Mango will continue the Primitive Trust EP series with their third release, Little Love.

Will Saul and Tom Mangan (a.k.a Tee Mango) announced the Primitive Trust EP series last year after reconnecting at a festival in Morocco and deciding to spend some time in the studio together. Using only the gear they had (MPC 2000, Ableton, Roland 101, Juno, Fender Rhodes, various FX pedals), they set about to work to create tracks with “a commitment to trusting their instincts and to go with their feelings.”

The result is a series of three EPs, two of which have already landed. Each EP features two or three original tracks and one fresh remix, with unique artwork and an illustration by visual auteur Geoff Mcfetridge.

Little Love, the latest addition, follows the same formula. The title track builds warm harmonies driven by syncopated bass grooves, while Tee Mango’s Dub of “Tejon” features shuffling chords. Floorplan closes the release with a remix.

Tracklisting

A1. Little Love
A2. Tejon (Tee Mango’s Dub)
B1. Little Love (Floorplan remix)

Little Love EP will land on January 26 via Aus Music, with “Little Love” streaming in full below.

Volte Face’s BleeD Welcomes Archivist & Fugal

The next release on Casper Clarke’s (a.k.a Volte Face) BleeD imprint comes from Archivist & Fugal.

The release, titled Undertow, was supposed to be the label’s third and final 12″ of the year but was postponed for manufacturing delays. Nonetheless, it sees the imprint welcome two exciting young American artists into the fold for a debut collaborative EP.

Both artists are involved in the Seattle-based Secondnature label/party, although Fugal is currently Berlin-based. The EP actually came about when Volte-Face heard “Undertow” on one of Archivist’s mixes, enquired where the track could be purchased, only to find that it was a one-off collaboration with no plans for a release. The idea for an EP was proposed and, despite the transatlantic journeying required to make it happen, the record came together relatively quickly.

Former Secondnature guest, the Northern Electronics/Semantica affiliated Acronym, rounds off the EP in resounding fashion with one of his most direct efforts to date.

All four tracks are staunchly club-focused, with the A1 “Being & Nothingness” setting a pensive, blue mood driven by siren-lead and melancholic pads. “Far Horizon” retains a similar mood, albeit more invigorating. Acronym’s remix is more driving, with buzzsaw atmospherics and biting percussion. “Undertow” is arguably the most dramatic track on the EP, with a pervading sense of menace throughout.

Tracklisting

01. Being & Nothingness
02. Far Horizon
03. Far Horizon” (Acronym remix)
04. Undertow

Undertow will land on Friday, January 12, with clips streaming below.

DJ Legwarmer ‘Waiting For You’

Lisbon-based label No, She Doesn’t is set to make a debut with NSD001. On the A-side are two “club bangers” provided by DJ Legwarmer and DJ Spielberg. A1 is a ’90s RnB throwback house tune excited by snappy hi-hats and luscious filters; on A2, DJ Spielberg presents an acid-inflected stomper. On the flip, things get smooth: on B1, a lacy vocal sample work floats over a jazzy instrumental, while B2 is a slow-burner by DJ Unsure, with a sluggish dubby bass, deep haunted vocals, and a hazed melodic background.

Tracklisting:

A1. DJ Legwarmer “Waiting For You”
A2. DJ Spielberg “Useful Powder”
B1. Joakim Hellgren “Fatale”
B2. DJ Unsure “You Know You Can Love You”

Pre-order will begin on February 10, with distribution via Lobster Distribution, while DJ Legwarmer’s “Waiting For You” is exclusively available for download via the WeTransfer button below.

Nanook of the North to Release Debut LP

Nanook of the North will soon release a self-titled debut LP.

Nanook of the North is the project of Stefan Wesołowski and Piotr Kaliński (also known as Hatti Vatti), two acclaimed Polish musicians.

Wesołowski is a violinist and composer best known for work with Jacaszek, his score to the BAFTA-nominated, Oscar-shortlisted Marlon Brando docu-film “Listen To Me Marlon,” and for his rapturous, critically acclaimed album Rite of the End.

Kaliński is one of the Polish underground’s most vital figures. Renowned for his analogue-focused sounds, this experimenter/explorer has been on a decade-long excursion through vast and heterogeneous modern electronic realms.

Upon being invited by the Sopot Film Festival next to their hometown of Gdansk to perform an improvised score to a film screening, the duo chose Robert J. Flaherty’s classic 1922 silent movie of the same name: “Nanook of the North.” Keen to maintain and nurture the initial ambient essence of the film, the duo travelled to Iceland where they recorded the album in Reykjavík and later mixed it in Greenland.

We’re told that the album “runs the gamut of images, scenarios, and atmosphere akin to scenes in a film.” Despite the icy expansive isolation captured from the movie, the album is “also transferable in scenario and evocation, equally omitting the dangerous allure of dystopian cityscapes, or even the ’80s sci-fi horror menace of Maurice Jarre, Howare Shore, and Jay Chattaway.”

Nanook of the North is out on March 2 via Denovali Records, with album cut “Arfernat” streaming in full below.
