Download a New Mix from Andrey Zots

Moscow’s Arma17 resident Andrey Zots has shared a new mix ahead of his performance at this year’s Into the Valley Festival.

Zots has dedicated the last decade to sound engineering, sound design or sound in art—”every step of a sonic journey through the life is about that.” he says. The mix, which incorporates quirky tech-house with breakbeat and electro influences, is streamable and downloadable via the WeTransfer button below.

This is what he had to say:

“The artistic temptation for me was in a way to chase the time and to play with it. So the perfect ambiance for such a play is where the concept of time itself is relative … I would say that this mix is space-inspired, transmitting a feeling of a journey in the weird time-machine which takes you to the floating dance floor of a cosmic discotheque and you can hardly tell if the destination is the past or the future. So please welcome on board.”

Slackk Preps New R&S Records LP

Slackk will release a new album on R&S Records, titled A Little Light.

Slackk first came to the attention of most with an EP of roughneck UK house on Numbers, before a series of more emotive, melody-driven records on Local Action and Unknown to the Unknown saw him emerge as one of the most influential artists working in the peripheries of grime—taking the genre’s hallmarks but placing them in a context that owed as much to Eastern mood pieces and the complex melodies of classic jazz records, hinting at other key influences on Slackk’s music. His debut album Palm Tree Fire was a particular success: Resident Advisor calling it a “beautiful glimpse into the mind of an under-appreciated producer.”

Slackk has since expanded the breadth and honed the details of his music through a pair of EPs on R&S—first Backwards Light, and then on the more abrasive Aviary. A Little Light, his first album for the label, is described as “his most idiosyncratic and personal release yet.”

According to the label, the release is inspired by the upcoming birth of his first child and sees Slackk drop the tempo to “an R&B 90bpm crawl…with the newfound space between his drums allowing his delicate melodies to grow and spiral like never before.”

Tracklisting:

01. Spring Mist
02. Paper Santos
03. Maze
04. Ripe Corn
05. Sefton Park West
06. Desert Eagle
07. So Far, The Sea
08. Picture
09. Deluxe Night Edition
10. Old Petchy Shows
11. Reasons
12. End
13. Zip Me Up
14. And The Sun

A Little Light is scheduled for May 12 release, with “Maze” streamable in full below.

Goldie to Release ‘Hard-Hitting’ Memoir

Goldie will release a “hard-hitting” memoir, titled All Things Remembered.

According to reports, British publisher Faber & Faber is working on the project, and say it’ll be an “an explosive story of abuse, revenge, graffiti, gold teeth, sawn-off shotguns, car crashes, hot yoga, absent fatherhood, and redemption through reality TV.”

The book will land on November 2, following Goldie’s triple-vinyl LP, The Journey Man, his first full-length as Goldie since 1998.

All Things Remembered is not just the story of how and why,” says Goldie. “It’s everything from the children’s homes to the Whispering Wheels roller-disco to rolling with the graffiti kings of New York to writing with David Bowie to reinventing myself as the Dorian Gray of fucking breakbeat.”

The book is being written with help from cultural critic Ben Thomson, who has worked on memoirs for comedian Vic Reeves, actor Phil Daniels, and The Streets’ Mike Skinner.

Weekly Selections: SXM Festival, LDL with Fort Romeau, Making Shapes with Ivan Smagghe

This weekend marks the second edition of the highly anticipated SXM Festival on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin. The destination festival will take over the entire palm-fringed island, hosting day parties on the beach, night time club events at carefully selected venues, and intimate afterparties at secret villas. This year’s stellar cast of artists will suit all tastes for underground music, with highlights including heavyweights like Nina Kraviz and Ricardo Villalobos all the way to up-and-comers like Montreal sensation Amir Javasoul and Beste Modus head Cinthie. Make sure not to miss XLR8R’s day party at the Beach Lounge of the Hotel Mercure, which will take place on Friday and will feature a headlining set from Visionquest mainstay Shaun Reeves. Saturday’s Dailycid party at The Refuge should also be top-notch, with performances from DJ W!LD, XLR8R favorite Dewalta, and a special live set from Ion Ludwig. The real treat will come on Sunday at the Closing Party at Happy Bay, where minimal masters Richie Hawtin and Ricardo Villalobos will close out the festival with a bang. For more information and last minute tickets, head to SXM’s Facebook event page.

On Friday night in Los Angeles, veteran West Coast party crew Lights Down Low will return to the warehouse district for a special collaborative party with Into The Woods Recordings. The event will focus on the deeper, melodic side of house and techno, with Sistrum Recordings boss Patrice Scott at the top of the bill. Running Back contributor Fort Romeau will also grace the decks, with Jimmy Maheras of Into The Woods and Corey Sizemore of Lights Down Low lined up for opening duties. More information and tickets can be found here.

And on Saturday, the underground event series Making Shapes will touch down again in Los Angeles, this time recruiting the eclectic French selector Ivan Smagghe for a headlining slot.
