Hear a New Track from Tim Engelhardt

On October 14, Tim Engelhardt will return to Poker Flat with his Your Words Keep Me Safe EP.

Your Words Keep Me Safe will be the third release on Steve Bug’s renowned imprint, with two EPs—Enigmatism and Everything Is All You Have—preceeding it last year. At just 17 years of age, Engelhardt has already amassed a release resume that most veterans would be proud of, taking in, among others, Sincopat, Parquet Recordings, and Robert Babicz’s Babiczstyle.

Engelhardt’s sound is melodically rich and filled with emotion, and that’s exactly what you’ll find on his latest outing, four intricate productions ripe for the dancefloor. Ahead of the release later this week, Engelhardt and Poker Flat have provided an exclusive stream of “Azimute,” the EP’s standout cut.

You can listen to the track in full via the player below, with the EP available to preorder over at Juno.

Stream Planetary Notions’ Killer New Vinyl-Only Release in Full

Now two releases deep, fresh London imprint Planetary Notions is prepping to drop its third 12″, Lovers Fall.

Steeped in UK soundsystem culture, Planetary Notions’ releases are aimed squarely at the floor. Big rolling basslines, razor-sharp percussion, and trippy synths feature prominently, from a cast of rising producers—most of which are debuting. Aside from releasing music, Planetary Notions is also an intimate, bi-monthly party in London based around quality resident DJs and, like its label arm, the party has already built a loyal following.

Out now, Lovers Fall features cuts from Stellar Wind and DSC, two debuting artists who drop “Search The Skies” and “Lovers Fall,” respectively. As you’ll hear in the player below, both tracks present a different side to the label: “Search The Skies” is a warped, off-kilter cut, with “Lovers Fall” a more straightforward, but nonetheless effective, groover.

You can order the release over at Decks.

Arturia Releases Affordable, Fully Analog Drum Machine

Arturia has announced the release of the DrumBrute, an analog drum machine which now sits alongside the MicroBrute, MiniBrute, and MatrixBrute in the Brute family.

The DrumBrute contains 17 fully analog drum and percussion instruments: two kicks, snare, clap, open and closed hats, high and low toms and conga, maracas, rimshot, clave, tambourine, zap, cymbal, and a reverse cymbal. On each of these channels, Arturia has included independent controls for various parameters in relation to each specific sound, with 12 separate outputs available. There’s also a two-mode Steiner-Parker filter on the main output to add dynamic frequency sweeps and cuts.

The DrumBrute’s sequencer patterns can run to 64 steps and each sound can run different sequence lengths, allowing for polyrhythmic structures. Additional features include swing, randomness, step repeat, roller, and looper functions.

The unit also has extensive connectivity and sync options, including MIDI, Clock, 1PPS, 2PPQ, DIN24, and DIN48, as well as being able to run as a MIDI interface to control your DAW.

The DrumBrute will retail for $499 and is available for order via Arturia’s website. You can watch two introductory videos below.

Tom Szirtes “Entering Valhalla”

Back last month, YEN Recordings was launched with Barely Breathing, the new album from seasoned producer and visual artist Tom Szirtes—Szirtes is also the artist behind the Shur-i-kan alias.

Beautifully subtle and ith a focus on strong melodies and delicate electronic drums, Barely Breathing is quite a departure from Szirtes’ work as Shur-i-kan and shows another dimension to the multi-talented artist.

To follow up the release of the album, Szirtes and YEN have offered up album cut “Entering Valhalla” as today’s XLR8R download. The ambient synth workout was inspired by sci-fi films, as Szirtes explains:

“‘Entering Valhalla’ was inspired by sci-fi films like Blade Runner. An evolving synth arpeggiator riff that morphs in tone as it shifts harmonically. I composed it by recording a longer improvision and then edited it down to create the final track.”

You can download “EnteringValhallaa” in full via WeTransfer below, with the full album available to stream over at Spotify.

Blawan Debuts on Avian as Kilner

Blawan will release a new new double-EP for Shifted‘s Avian as Kilner.

Jamie Roberts is no stranger to the more experimental tenets of the techno genre, and much of the British artist’s output of late has hinted at more leftfield leanings. A recent return to Will Bankhead’s Trilogy Tapes imprint saw a brace of meditative, post-Detroit workouts—employing the same heady, hardware aesthetic as much of his work on Ternesc, though at a drastically reduced tempo.

It’s this same willingness to break down perceptions regarding his own music that marks Walk Type—Roberts’ debut on the Avian label—as a notable chapter in the artist’s discography.

In terms of aesthetic finish, AVN027 might be Roberts’ most comprehensive and well articulated ode to the culture of machine music—but it’s also his most organic offering. Corroded drones provide the basis for much of the material, pitching & bending at will, shifting and warping in and amongst furtive drum work.

Tracklisting:

01. Sunsera
02. Filk
03. Insa
04. Otto Morph
05. Auto Wave
06. Tamtara

Walk Type is scheduled for November 28 release as 2×12″ vinyl and digital.

Electric Minds Announces Final Event

Electric Minds will close after 2016.

Earlier this year, electric minds announced an international tour in celebration of 10 years in business. The London-based events team has now broken the news that it is also to be their final year in action; label and party head honcho Dolan Bergin made the announcement that it would be shutting down at the end of the year, so that full attention could be given to sister organization The Hydra.

Bergin elaborated: “Sometimes it’s good to quit while you’re ahead and while you’re hopefully still relevant in such a fast moving industry. When the parties were started and then the label it was just for fun, there was no master plan but for electric minds to be an outlet for music that myself and others enjoyed at the time. When I met Ajay in 2011 and The Hydra was born, so much of our time was dedicated to building the project. As The Hydra became more successful there was less time to focus on running an independent label.”

For its final outing, electric minds will host a New Year’s Eve party in London at Corsica Studios. Billed to perform are Move D, Mr Ties, Hesseltime, and label head Bergin. In the meantime, the team are also stopping off at Concrete, Panorama Bar and Culture Box.

For more information, head to the electric minds site.
