Max D to Release New EP via Off Minor; Preview It Now

Juju Jordash member Jordan GCZ’s impeccable Off Minor imprint will release its first record of the year next week in the form of the four-track Shaping EP from prolific DC-based producer Maxmillion Dunbar. Appearing as Max D on the upcoming effort, Shaping sees the Future Times co-head dishing out four more of his slightly off-kilter dancefloor constructions, with plenty of restless synthlines, percolating percussion, and celestial pads to be heard throughout.

Software Releases New Tallesen Remix EP

A follow-up to his debut LP, Stills Lit Through, which dropped late last year via the Software label, New York artist Tallesen (pictured above) has enlisted a handful of fellow beatmakers to reinterpret tracks from his recent album for a new remix EP. Among the producers featured on the digital collection are Ghostly affiliate Lord Raja, Portland artist Best Available Technology (who recently dropped a collaborative LP alongside BNJMN), and Tallesen’s Software labelmate Thug Entrancer, all of whom reshape the East Coast artist’s densely packed electronic constructions into entirely new endeavors.

Released today, the Stills Lit Through Remixes EP can be streamed below, and picked up as a name-your-price download via Bandcamp. In addition, Tallesen’s debut album is still available to stream in full here.

Patrice Scott Details Upcoming Debut LP, Shares Preview

After originally revealing plans to release his debut long-player in May of last year, Detroit-based deep house producer Patrice Scott has (after some delay) unveiled the full details of his forthcoming first full-length album, Euphonium. Spanning nine tracks, the LP will see its release via Scott’s own Sistrum label, through which he has released 11 solo EPs and numerous collaborative projects, as well as material from a handful of likeminded artists. On Euphonium, Scott is said to continue exploring the “modern sound of deepest Detroit,” offering a collection of new productions that are described as “sublime and evolved with depth and authenticity as only Scott can convey.”

Ahead of the record’s official release via Sistrum on April 27, preview streams for all nine Euphonium LP cuts can be heard using the player below.

DADRAS “Mormon Disco”

Hailing from Queens, NYC, DADRAS is an adventurous new artist whose aims lie somewhere between the worlds of textured electronics and experimental hip-hop. On his forthcoming record for the Connect label, RUBAIYAT I, DADRAS takes his craft in no less than nine different directions, with one resulting in the production featured here, “Mormon Disco.” Perhaps the record’s most straightforward effort, “Mormon Disco” begins as a ghostly take on streetwise beatmkaing, its bobbing kicks and stuttering hats providing the undercurrent for a series of singed bell melodies and floating chords. Gradually, DADRAS diverts from the path, piece-by-piece morphing the tune into an altogether more twisted piece of boom-bap as it progresses. Set to arrive on March 30, a teaser video for DADRAS’ RUBAIYAT I outing can be watched below, where the free download of the NYC up-and-comer’s “Mormon Disco” production can also be found.

Tokyo Hands Preps New EP for Donky Pitch

Brighton’s much-loved Donky Pitch imprint has announced plans to release a new EP from TOMCREW founder and former Yung Lean producer Tokyo Hands. The five-track Underbrush EP will be the North Carolina producer’s second release for the label (after 2013’s Islands EP), and it appears set to find the artist continuing to explore his signature blend of heavy subs, lush melodies, and inventive, tropical-tinged drum programming. No previews of Underbrush are currently available, but the upcoming record’s artwork can be seen above, and its tracklist can be found below ahead of the EP’s March 30 release date.

Download a New EP from Little People

Anglo-Swiss producer Laurent Clerc (a.k.a. Little People), has released a new three-track EP, Csay Csay, via his own Youth & Progress imprint. Clerc, whose hip-hop-influenced work has frequently appeared to much acclaim in our Downloads section, grew up in the Swiss Alps in the ’90s and learned about New York hip-hop from a switched-on local radio DJ. A later move to the UK brought the IDM of labels like Warp and Skam into the mix, and set him on the musical course he’s been charting since.

Csay Csay finds Clerc—in the words of the press release—moving “away from what he feels is the over reliance of samples in his genre, towards composition and the use of organic instrumentation—whilst keeping the trademark warmth of an old piece of vinyl.” The results can be streamed in full using the player below, and the EP can currently be grabbed as a name-your-price download via Bandcamp.

Cassius Select “Cross Strut”

Likely by intention, the title “Cross Strut” lends itself to an almost perfect visual interpretation of the rhythms employed in this production from budding Australian artist Cassius Select. Built with sharp-edged samples and percussive hits that seem to stumble over each other, “Cross Strut” also exhibits a kind of uncanny swing that seems akin to one attempting to strut down the street with their legs crossed. It may take listeners a few beats to fully wrap their head around the track, but this only makes the tune that much more intriguing, especially when it is set to be paired with three other similarly lopsided club experiments on the forthcoming Crook EP, which is scheduled to land via our most recent XLR8R podcast contributor DJ Haus’ Unknown to the Unknown label on March 23. In the meantime, “Cross Strut” can be grabbed below, where a video for Cassius Select’s “He Ain’t Worth” production from the same upcoming record has also been included.

Avalon Emerson Drops New Cybernetic Edits Collection

Avalon Emerson has been on a bit of a tear since relocating from San Francisco to Berlin in 2014, having issued a pair of EPs for the Spring Theory label in recent months, and maintaing a rather busy DJ schedule throughout. Now, the ascendant producer/DJ has returned with a new collection of Cybernetic Edits—DJ-minded reworks of classic tracks that can now be downloaded for free.

Emerson’s Cybernetic series planted its roots last summer when the producer let loose a collection of remixes and a handful of custom edits. Now, the Berlin transplant has decided to turn Cybernetic Edits into a more consistent and ongoing series, which will include reworkings from Emerson herself as well as a handful of her contemporaries. Today, a new volume arrives, finding Emerson taking on Technotronic’s “Pump Up the Jam” and Friction & Spice’s “Groove Me,” among others. The collection can be downloaded in AIFF and MP3 form here, where one can also sign up for the Cybernetic Edit subscription service.

Applescal Announces New LP, Shares Track

Applescal has kept himself rather busy in recent months overseeing a steady stream of releases from his Atomnation label (which has included records from Sau Poler, Gidge, and Portable Sunsets, among others), but now the time has come for the Dutchman to once again utilize his skills as a producer for a new full-length effort simply titled For. The 10-track LP is said to find Applescal delving in somewhat “deeper and darker sonic terrains” than on his previous efforts, while still maintaining much of the “organic and buoyant sound” which have characterized his past productions. Serving as our first taste of this new balance is “Airports,” appearing towards the end of the forthcoming LP’s run, the track is a textured affair that pulses with airy chords and is streaked with restless synthlines.

Applescal’s For LP will see its official release on May 18. Before then, the record’s full tracklist and a stream of LP cut “Airports” have been included below, where a number of the Dutch producer’s upcoming European DJ dates have also been included.

Don’t Be Afraid Details Upcoming EPs from Herva and The Room Below

The Don’t Be Afraid label has outlined its spring release plans, which will include a new EP from rising Italian producer Herva (pictured above) and UK artist The Room Below, as well as a four-track various artists compilation.

Landing on March 30, Herva’s Dreamers of Unknown Tales EP follows behind a string of impressive releases for Delsin, Kontra, MOS, and All City and is said to find the young Italian producer presenting “another set of forward-thinking dancefloor bombs… [that] demonstrate his unique interpretation of the past and the future again and again.” Also landing on March 30 will be the label’s DBA019.5 V/A compilation. The vinyl-only release will incorporate works from four producers new to the Don’t Be Afraid fold including Detroit resident Radio Brovold, NYC producer Max McFerren (a.k.a. MCFERRDOG), Parisian talent Ben Cohen, and Finnish producer Halvtrak. The artwork and tracklist for both Herva’s Dreamers of Unknown Tales EP and the forthcoming DBA019.5 compilation have been included below.

In addition to the records outlined above, Don’t Be Afraid will also release a new EP from London-based producer The Room Below in April. Entitled the Homemade Waves EP, the four-track effort is said to come streaked with “a mixture of classic and experimental house sounds,” and follows behind the artist’s appearance on a V/A compilation for the label last year. Set to arrive on April 13, the artwork and complete tracklist for The Room Below’s Homemade Waves EP has also been included below.
