New DJ Metatron EP Appears on Giegling

2 The Sky, a new EP by DJ Metatron, has popped up at the Giegling store.

DJ Metatron is an alias of Traumprinz (a.k.a. Prince of Denmark), which was first conceived with 2014’s U’ll Be The King Of The Stars EP. Metatron’s latest effort is the Weimar-based imprint’s second release of the year, following on from an ambient record by Leafar Legov (as well as Olin‘s edits EP on their g~~g~~~g sub-label).

2 The Sky is a four-tracker made up of two original Metatron tracks, as well as two remixes of unreleased Traumprinz cuts.

Stephen Lopkin “The Permanent Way”

Having released music on a handful of various labels such as Urban Torque, M>O>S Recordings, and Bokhari Records, the Scottish producer Stephen Lopkin has recently released his fifth EP titled The Strategic Steam Reserve on Belfast-based imprint Titanic City. The fledgling imprint pledges to release music with the purpose of putting “its hometown of Belfast on the electronic music map” and has thus far done a fine job of doing so, bringing in true up-and-comers such as Perseus Traxx, Martin De Brig, and Hermez.

Having just dropped his The Strategic Steam Reserve EP, which pays homage to the classic sounds of Chicago and Detroit, Stephen Lopkin has offered up the track “The Permanent Way” as today’s XLR8R download. Complete with an unyielding drum patterns and woebegone synth arrangements, the track’s intergalactic and deep space feel stretches on with purpose and perpetuity.

Stream the Debut EP from Son Of A Son

The Colombian-born, Brooklyn-based producer Martin Velez (a.k.a Son Of A Son) is set to release his debut EP titled Gemini I on his own fresh imprint Leave Of Absence. After studying architecture in both Bogota and Milan, Velez migrated to Brooklyn to continue his studies at Pratt Institute University. Eventually realizing his passion for music, Velez built up his savings, built a music studio, and enrolled in a music technology masters program at NYU. Later on, Velez and his old high-school buddy from Colombia Samir Oliveros (a.k.a The Landlord) came together in NYC to start their Leave Of Absence imprint, based in Bogota, Colombia.

According to the two musicians: “The idea behind the label and its music is to create tracks that lead you into a mental journey, where the elements unfold with time and absorb the listener, driving them into a state of mind where hopefully they will experience something new or gain a new perspective. Sometimes it’s necessary to take a leave of absence from the ordinary and journey out into the world to find out who you really are. So take the open invitation and see were you might end up.”

Stream ASOK’s Debut LP in Full

Today, Liverpool artist Stu Robinson (a.k.a. ASOK) drops his debut full-length offering, A Mind Forever Voyaging, on Creme Organization.

As is the case with all of Robinson’s output, the LP is filled with dusty, left-field rhythms, chunky club cuts, and tender, synth-driven excursions which are all driven by the Scenery Records boss’ hardware collection, including the TB303, Elektron Analog RYTM, JX-8P, and a Microkorg—with some plugins and “a shit load of old rave samples” filling in the gaps. From its brutal drum-machine compositions to the beautifully floating ambient cuts, it’s as an accomplished debut as you are likely to hear and one that was recorded with a live, “one-take” mindset.

Following on from releases on M>O>S and Mistress, A Mind Forever Voyaging is available today on vinyl via via Godspill and digitally over at Creme Organization, with the full release also streaming in full via the player below.

Perlon Reveals Details of Spacetravel Double-EP

As revealed last month, Spacetravel (a.k.a. Luca Cara)—who recently contributed to the XLR8R podcast series—is set to release via Zip and Markus Nikolai‘s Berlin-based Perlon imprint.

Very little information was known about the release, but it is now clear that the double-EP, entitled Dancing Therapy, is scheduled for July 15, with the following tracklisting.

Derek Piotr “Sound”

Derek Piotr is a Poland-born producer and composer based in New England, whose work focuses primarily on the voice. His upcoming release, entitled Drono, is a drone album, which emphasizes the form and and durational composition of drone through unquantized, glitching samples and near-absence of rhythm.

In conceptualizing each track, Piotr was inspired by the liminality of water. Water is between states. It is neither solid nor gas; calm nor storm. Drono is similarly unfixed in its approximation of drone music. Its textures develop subtly, with progression measured through shifting depths and sonic fluidity rather than forward expansion.

As a result, most of the album tracks are named after bodies of water: “Lakes,” “Shallows,” “Sound” (an archaic term for swimming, now used to describe coastal waterways). The record’s title is multi-dimensional, referencing both the record’s drone aesthetic and a Norwegian island (Drøno). Drono is also Malagasy for “wash,” aptly reflecting the transient nature of the album.

Todd Terje & The Olsens Announce New EP; Stream Track Here

Norway’s Todd Terje & The Olsens have announced a new EP, entitled The Big Cover-Up.

Appearing on record together for the first time, Norway’s premier disco troupe have cooked up a double-pack dancefloor-focused release. Digging through their extensive collections of well-loved wax, Terje & the gang have specially selected a quartet of disco classics ripe for a remake.

Covers and remixes of disco cuts cover four sides on this 2×12″ set, including songs by Martin Denny/Yellow Magic Orchestra, Martin Circus, Boney M and Vangelis, as well as remixes of those numbers by the likes of Daniel Maloso, Dan Tyler, Prins Thomas, and Øyvind Morken.

Stream a New Video from Shit Robot

To mark last week’s release of the second single from Shit Robot‘s upcoming new album What Follows, DFA has revealed a new conceptual video for “Lose Control” from Irish director Kevin McGloughlin, who directed the video for prior single, ‘”End of the Trail” featuring Hot Chip‘s Alexis Taylor.

The track features Nancy Whang, a vocalist that is by now very familiar with fans of both DFA and Shit Robot, as a member of both LCD Soundsystem and The Juan Maclean. While recording at album mix engineer Juan Maclean’s New Hampshire home studio, Whang supplied such a strong vocal that Lambkin and Maclean threw out the existing track and recorded the backing along with the vocal in one take, with the two producers working the machines live and Nancy’s deadpan delivery commanding attention amid the hypnotic acid house whirl. The single also features a remix by Spencer Parker.

The album, What Follows, arrives on DFA Records on May 6 2016.

Mongo Skato “Perc”

Since the release of his debut album I Dont Give It on the highly regarded Vancouver-based label 1080p back in 2014, the New Zealand artist Mongo Skato has continued to hone his skills on the MPC and show of his dashing production skills when it comes to creating piercing, unhinged and rhythmic sounds. His most recent track “Perc” is the lead single of ‘MA.C001,’ a 9 track compilation of New Zealand underground house and techno producers. The compilation is the first release of the new New Zealand label Margins, a label that is determined to “increase listeners’ access to quality club music from the Antipodes.”

The label has kindly offered up “Perc” as today’s XLR8R download. With a true and grooving sense of fulfillment, the track’s housey vibe uses a fetching vocal hook, horn samples and a refreshing, straightforward rhythm that includes “hand clap that’s practically a lead instrument.”

‘MA.C001’ will be released on May 19, via cassette and digital download.
