Montreal native Mike Silver (aka CFCF), has a mini-album dropping this year via Uruguayan imprint, International Feel. The eight-tracker will mark the artist’s debut on the music label.
Silver has described On Vacation as “a kind of jazzy affair,” according to RA, inspired by “places and spaces, some imaginary, some real.” The album will also be the second installment of a mini-album series on International Feel.
The Canadian artist has had an exciting year, with a surprise Grammy nomination at the upcoming 58th edition of the awards ceremony, for his remix of “Berlin by Overnight,” in the “Best Remixed Recording, Non Classical” category.

On Vacation is due out February 19 via International Feel.
The Russians are coming! At least, it sure seems that way: Just last week, we kicked off the 2016 podcast lineup with a set from Russian DJ-producer Andrey Pushkarev, and today, we’re proud to present a mix from his fellow Muscovite, Buttechno. Though they’re both from the same metropolis, their styles diverge—whereas Pushkarev selected from the deep and emotive end of the electronic-house spectrum, Buttechno (born Pavel Milyakov) goes in a riskier direction, veering into near-abstract experimentalism while managing to keep one foot in the dancefloor. It’s a difficult balancing act, but its one that Buttechno handles with aplomb. The mix is a self-assured work, which is all the more impressive when you consider the fact that his first release, Sport, released on his own John’s Kingdom label, came out just this past October. Nonetheless, he’s already been making a name for himself as an artist—check out his recent Boiler Room set for a sample of his sonic sorcery. And there’s plenty more to come in 2016; for instance, he’s one of the featured artists at Berlin’s adventurous, almost-here CTM Festival, with “New Geographies” serving as this installment’s theme. Buttechno’s performing at the fest not just once, but twice—he’ll be playing at the opening party at Panorama Bar on January 29, and again at HAU2 on February 2. If you are at all into boundary-pushing sights and sounds, do yourself a favor and make the festival a date…but even if you can’t, this audacious set should go far to make you a fan of Buttechno.
Was there any particular mood or vibe you were going for here? For this mix, I just gathered my latest digs, which I used to play on recent sets. It’s partly industrial, partly early-’90s simplicity, some hypnotic Afro-related beats, and a bit romantic free jazz mixed with spoken word.
How would you say this mix compares to what you might play for a club or at a festival? This mix reflects both. Some of these records, I will definitely play in Panorama Bar—and on the other hand, these are pieces which inspire me in my sound research, which I will perform at HAU2.
Do you think your music has evolved differently than it would have if you were based somewhere like Berlin, rather than Moscow? Yeah, I’m sure that Moscow and places around here, where I grew up, influenced a lot regarding what I am trying to reach in music. It has a very special vibe. I used to live abroad for some time, but there’s no way I could find this kind of energy that is located here.
How did you put this mix together? I used a turntable and also a CDJ, putting some unreleased material from Johns’ Kingdom musicians (Shumopeleng, DJ Kassir) and some rare stuff such as Das Kombinat into the mix. I don’t have a lot of experience in mixing from turntables. In the past I used to play from the laptop, but then I gave up with it and started playing this way. It is harder—but its more interesting and challenging for me, and makes me feel that I am working while I am playing a set.
And finally, what’s up for Buttechno in 2016? In spring 2016, I will release one twelve-inch on France’s Public System Recordings, one twelve-inch on GOST ZVUK (my favorite local label), and a seven-inch on Collapsing Market. Then I am planning to release a vinyl compilation with Johns’ Kingdom artists, and a couple of more experimental self-produced vinyls.
Detroit veteran Terrence Dixon (aka Population One) has announced the release of Temporary Insanity—a new record scheduled to land later this month under the artist’s aforementioned alias.
Last year was a busy one for Dixon, who saw three individual EPs land on the Modularz, 30drop and Reduction imprints.
With this latest two-tracker, the artist dives into his more retro and old-school side, presenting a record that features strong synth sounds and percussive elements.

Hailing from Detroit, the well-rounded and astute lyricism of rapper Leaf Erikson is a far cry from the trapped-out, unintelligible, autotune style of hip-hop, the kind that all too often overshadows the humanistic storytelling of wordsmiths like Erikson. Having just recently come out with his album Hidden Gems on the Sydney-based label Fifty Records, Erikson’s LP aims to “paint a picture of hop-hop’s resurrection.” Having grown up in such a musical city while showcasing vivid oratory that has not gone unnoticed, he has worked with and performed alongside some of the genre’s best , including, Slum Village, Das EFX, Madlib, Del the Funky Homosapien, Mos Def, Afrika Bambataa, and many more.
The artist has given XLR8R the opportunity to feature his track “Cypress (feat. Intricate Dialect),” produced by fellow Detroit native Shady EV, as today’s XLR8R download. The track boasts a sleek, jazzy beat with a bouncing, 90s influenced fortitude that both rappers navigate via their smooth, noble and old-school hip-hop demeanor.

Hailing from London, DJ-producer Sean Moriguchi has released a provoking mix that incorporates some of the latest tracks in tech-house while creating an underlying theme explaining the roots from which techno and house began.
To start things off, Moriguchi jumps into a Detroit techno sound by introducing the mix with interview clips from Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, who explain the genre’s mechanical and technological origins in the city that birthed it. A little later, the mix then introduces a Chicago house vibe with tracks such as Bicep’s “Just,” and using spoken word samples from house legends Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy.

The Tokyo nightclub WOMB, which is widely recognized as being one of Asia’s most iconic electronic music destinations, has announced the start of its very own music label, entitled Session WOMB.
The label kicks off with an EP from Nathan Barato and Francisco Allendes titled Got To Get, which is slated for release on January 18. Percussively groomed with precision and bite, the bouncy bassline and devious shuffle of the groove-riddled title track is playfully re-worked in the tune “Tog ot Tog” while DJ Dep rounds off the EP with an up-front tech-house remix.
The fresh imprint has announced that they will be expanding their label roster in 2016 while further cementing themselves as a sought-after signature brand of dance music from Japan. Be sure to keep your eye out for more releases from Session WOMB by following them on SoundCloud here.
Berlin-based imprint, Repitch, has announced part of its release schedule for the first half of 2016, all the way through July. As reported by RA, a total of four new projects are set to land on the imprint, over the course of the next months.
The first anticipated release will come from Repitch label stalwarts, Ascion, AnD, Shapednoise, and D.Carbone—who team up as D.A.S. D.A., their new collaborative project—with an EP landing on January 30. Following up is Mike Parker, with the release of his first solo 10-inch on the imprint scheduled for March 17. Sote will also make his solo debut on the imprint, with a 10-inch of his own, landing on May 12. To finalize the list, Italian producer Ascion, will be dropping a mini album on July 14, titled: Joydexon Club.

Bringing KiNK and Sierra Sam together for a live set is a tried-and-true formula. In 2014, the Bulgarian producer and his Berlin-based collaborator teamed up for a live show at Watergate, which was subsequently released in album form. Now, Pacha Barcelona has uploaded video of the pair’s muscular set for Insane over the summer, which runs about 90 minutes. Watch it in full below.
Ahead of Transmat‘s 30 year anniversary, Derrick May, has announced the release of four new EPs landing on the imprint early 2016.
Israeli duo Deep’a & Biri and Hiroshi Watanabe will each release brand new 12-inches, while French artist Karim Sahraoui, is set to release a continuation from last year’s Eternal Life Part 1 EP. Azimute—the duo comprised of Cesare Marchese and Philippe Quenum—will also release new music from their collaborative project.
