The Maghreban Returns

The Maghreban is set to return with two new singles, namely “Brooklyn” and “The Carpenters.”

This double A-side will be his second outing on Bristol label Black Acre following his “Lose It”/”Wrong Move” double A-side earlier in 2016,

The Maghreban:

“This is an ode to my dead rescue cat Brooklyn. Also, there’s some soca rhythms in there, and Straker’s records was in Brooklyn. Tenuous link there. The Carpenters were an odd couple. I named this track that because the synths that come in, it kind of sounds like they’re having an odd conversation with the bass. Or with each other. A conversation between two odd things. Not that I’m entirely normal myself.”

Brooklyn / The Carpenter is scheduled for November 11 release on Black Acre, with “Brooklyn” streamable in full below.

Local Talk Launches Tune Imprint With ‘Freak Tool’

Sweedish label Local Talk—home to releases from, among others, HNNY, Lay-far, Ashley Beedle, Luke Solomon, Outboxx, and Kyodai—will launch a sister label called Tune on October 17 with the debut from Theo Walbeck.

The concept for the label is simple: “each track, or “tune,” that will be released is so good that you only need to hear it once and it will be love at first listen.” The label is proving its confidence in this statement by pressing each release to 12″ vinyl and leaving the b-side blank. “Freak Tool” will be the inaugural track, with six minutes of raw, chunky house from “a secretive alias of a well-known act, who for now is being kept anonymous.”

You can hear snippets and preorder the 12″ over at Deejay ahead of its October 17 release.

Spencer Clark Announces New Typhonian Highlife Album

Spencer Clark will release his next album as Typhonian Highlife.

Belgium-based Californian experimentalist Spencer Clark is known for his work as one half of The Skaters, and more recently for running the Pacific City imprint and sub-labels. A specialist in trippy, mind-bending musical journeys, his latest releases have been alongside Jan Anderzen as Tarzana, as well as crafting a few colorful solo projects.

Next up is a full-length from his Typhonian Highlife project, The World of Shells, which will drop via Kraak Records. According to Clark himself, the LP’s origins follow on from 2014’s Pinhead In Fantasia, which was a response to monsters arriving in his dreams; The World of Shells was also inspired by events in the non-waking state, when a visitor instructed him “to ‘animate a mask’ through the act of ‘protoplasmic progression.'” Naturally, the 40 minute recording is made up of far-out, experimental jams, dedicated to turning that imagination into reality.

Also in the pipeline is a new release on Clark’s Pacific City Sound Visions—Frank Dommert’s Kiefermusik LP. The record, which originally dropped back in 1990, is made up of surreal and cut-up collage music made from tapes.

The World of Shells is due out October 20. Pre-order it at Juno.

Tracklisting:

01. Chitahoori Training Tape
02. The Startled Gaze Of The Chitahoori
03. Nyangani Warp Speeds
04. Symphosodon Nasty Boys
05. Nano-Zootypes In A Tenctonese Exhibition Tank
06. Wah Wah Day Gecko Gecco

Premiere: Stream a Track from Shifted’s New Album

Avian label head Guy Alexander Brewer will release his third full-length as Shifted on Dominick Fernow‘s Hospital Productions on October 18.

Appropriation Stories will be his first LP since 2013’s Under a Single Banner—which dropped on Hospital sub-label Bed of Nails—and follows the same dense path set by its predecessor. The album is filled with intricately layered textures and evolving, warped atmospheres which slowly unfold and reveal themselves over time. These subtle techniques are bookended across the release with syncopated, rolling drums and enough bass weight to satisfy the techno heads, resulting in a full-length that is as beautiful as it is ominous.

In anticipation of the release, Brewer and Hospital have offered up a full stream of “Spires,” a murky and rhythmically complex cut which you can hear via the player above.

Shifted’s upcoming tour dates can also be found below.

Hear Danny Daze Remix Tiga and Hudson Mohawke’s ‘Planet E’

Back in March, Tiga released his latest full-length album, No Fantasy Required, on his own Turbo Recordings.

The latest asset to land from the album is a remix package for Tiga’s collaboration with TNGHT’s Hudson Mohawke, “Planet E.” Stepping up for remix duties are a cast of heavy hitters, including Dense & Pika, Melé, and Miami producer Danny Daze. Each rework provides an interesting twist to the original cut, from Dens & Pika’s chart-topping techno to Melé’s percussive refix and Danny Daze’s italo monster.

The remix package will be released on 12″ vinyl and digitally on October 28 and, in the meantime, you can stream Danny Daze’s remix in full via the player below.

Delorean ‘MUZIK’ (Obscure Pedro Vian Remix)

Barcelona-based quartet Delorean returned this summer with Muzik, their latest full-length via the group’s PHLEX label.

Walking the line between pop and electronic music, Delorean craft sunny, synth-soaked melodies paired with traditional rock arrangements and slow-burning dance rhythms. On Muzik, the group decided to focus primarily on the electronic realm, trading in their guitars for synths and going full throttle on the four-to-the-flour pulse, channeling ’80s pop and contemporary Balearic house.

Soon the group will release a remix package of the album, but today they have shared a Pedro Vian remix of lead single “Muzik”, a cut that was produced by fellow Spaniard Pional—downloadable via the WeTransfer button below.

This is what the band had to say:

Hi! We’re happy to finally share the remixes of our album Muzik. Honestly, we can’t be happier with the artists that contributed to this special release. Pional, who already worked on the production of the single “Muzik”, delivers a rather pop rework of the song showing off his already known finesse and talent. Pedro Vian, both producer and commander in chief of the label Modern Obscure Music, shares with us a downtempo remix of Muzik, halfway between the dark ambiance of his own work and the pop nuances of the original song. Finally, El Guincho presents a 100% free version of Contra: new lyrics, new beat and new vibe on this heavy bass and melodyne driven espanish cover that you will surely be able to sing along.
