Silverlining “Sticky Snails”

Back in December, British producer Silverlining returned with the latest in his Silverlining Dubs series.

Simply titled Silverlining Dubs (ix), the EP features four tracks of varied intensity and vibe. The EP opens with a raw and driving monster of a track, the aptly titled “Groundhog Rave,” before flowing into the melodically rich and melancholic “Stolen Baggage,” which was originally released by Eukahouse in 1997. From there, Silverlining keeps listeners—and dancers—on their toes with the warm and trippy “Spinach, Mystery and Insult,” before closing things out with the dreamy dubbed-out beats of “Sticky Snails” (ft. Chris Pascoe).

In support of the release, Silverlining has offered up a free download of “Sticky Snails,” available via WeTransfer below. You can pick up Silverlining Dubs (ix) here.

Due to issues regarding the GDPR, EU readers can download the track here.

Lapien Set to Debut on Tikita

Nick Lapien, better known as Lapien, will release a new EP on Tikita.

Tikita is a Morocco-based label with a focus on deep and groovy techno. This is Lapien’s debut on the label, following EPs on Soul People Music, REKIDS, and DVS1’s Mistress Recordings. He’s also known for his work as one half of Artefakt with Robin Koek.

Opener “Brumal” kicks off with deep, swirling pads and punchy drums. It’s soft and atmospheric techno with a dubby bottom end and cosmic moods that is soothing and warm. The “natural/electronic.system.” remix of “Moonset” is simmered down into an absorbing ambient soundscape with rolling, rubbery drums. Last of all, the original “Moonset,” streaming below, is another richly layered and spacious techno groove, with gentle percussion over drums and synths smearing out in all directions.

It’s “brilliantly expansive music for intimate dancefloors,” the label explains.

Folamour Returns with ‘Ordinary Drugs’ Album

Bruno Boumendil, better known as Folamour, will release his second studio album, Ordinary Drugs, on February 1.

We’re told that the 11-track affair is another showcase of the French artist’s ability to tell real stories that draw on his unique fusion of sunny house, soulful disco, and space jazz. He’s been active since 2015, and this latest album follows 2017’s Umami, released via Moonrise Hill Material. The label describes it as “another impossibly blissed-out affair for the soul” that comes with a backstory.

I remember these long sleepless nights, all these thoughts whispering and screaming in my head, all of these memories, fading, day after day. And I remember your face. Or… do I? Some days, it was harder than usual, not remembering your smell, your hands, all these smiles falling in the movies inside my thoughts, and it was pain to find out my life was swallowed by the clouds. But every bit of these memories are stronger than any drug to me. Like walking in the streets, early in the morning, feeling the chaos waking up, the noises and people madness. Coming out of my place, blinded by the sun light, smoking a cigarette, slowly, and then, another one. Looking at the trains waltz from my balcony, the wind bringing all the city words to my ears. Witnessing the exhaustion of suits going back home to their closet, the first seconds of roses rising through the concrete, and the breathlessness.

“This album is dedicated to all these little things that bring me back to life every day, which help me get through the restless nights, through the big waves crushing on my shore. I have learned to find small pieces of happiness in everything I can and I wish for you to master that craft a little more every day, all your life, like I hope I will.—Folamour

Premiere: Hear a Dense and Emotive Ambient Cut From Qloo

Copenhagen label Pattern Abuse will release its second compilation, Pattern Abuse Compilation 2 – Nordic Ambient, next week.

The release features 11 tracks produced by little-known producers from Sweden and label home, Denmark, providing a beautiful and, at times, haunting look into the Nordic ambient sound. Over at least the last half decade, producers from the Nordic countries have proved to be masters of melancholic ambience—whether dense, fragile, gorgeous, brutal, or desolate. The music that emanates out of the Scandinavian region is full of depth and intrigue—much like the land itself—and on Pattern Abuse’s new compilation this is on full display across a collection of engrossing and emotional cuts.

To give you a taste of the compilation, Pattern Abuse has offered up a full stream of Qloo‘s “Oh,” a dense ambient cut full of rippling textures and icy soundscapes, available to stream below.

You can pick up the compilation next week via the Pattern Abuse Bandcamp page.

Pom Pom Album Next on A-Ton

Ostgut Ton’s A-Ton sub-label will release the eighth album of Pom Pom.

For over 15 years, Pom Pom have been releasing techno 12″s and CDs in a staple black sleeve carrying with zero information as to their identity or work. Early last year, they ventured away from their own label for the first time with a five-track EP on Ostgut Ton, and now they’ll release Untitled II via sub-label A-Ton.

We’re told to expect “another side of Pom Pom.”

Pomona, CA’s Lealani has announced the release of her debut album, Fantastic Planet, scheduled for January 18 release via Dome of Doom

Lealani initially used the Fantastic Planet moniker for her KSPC FM radio show. She was introduced to Dome of Doom through her performance at Low End Theory Festival 2016, taking the stage as a winner of the Beat Invitational submission series.

Swindle Album Next on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings

Swindle will release a new album on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings, titled No More Normal.

The 11-track album was built over a three-year period. The opening track, “What We Do,” became the track that set the scene for each studio session and features an unusual combination of R&B singer Daley, Grime legends P Money & D Double E, and an opening speech from Bristol-based spoken-word artist Rider Shafique.

We’re told that the resulting work has a pervading sense of triumph against the odds, and a celebration of togetherness at this moment of fragmentation that manages to feel both optimistic and nostalgic. It’s described as a record that could have only been made in today’’s multicultural Britain.

No More Normal is the idea of us doing our thing, our way, with no rules or limitations. It is jazz influenced as much as it is grime influenced. It’s London influenced as much as it is LA influenced. I can work with D Double E and Nubya Garcia, these records are my imagination brought to life in musical form,” Swindle explains.

The album follows a spate of projects where Swindle’s taken on the role of producer for other artists, and also years of graft with releases on Butterz, including 2015’s Peace, Love & Music album, itself preceded by three other long-players, among them 2013’s Long Live The Jazz, released on Mala’s Deep Medi label. It incorporates an all-star cast of some of the UK’s finest MCs in Kojey Radical, Ghetts, D Double E, and P Money, to instrumentalists Yussef Dayes, Nubya Garcia, Riot Jazz, and singers such as Etta Bond, Eva Lazarus, Daley, and Kiko Bun.

Swindle last appeared on Brownswood with 2014’s Walter’s Call EP.

Premiere: Hear a Funk-Filled Cut From Fabe’s Debut LP

Fabe is set to drop his debut album, Water Tower, on his own Salty Nuts label early next week.

The album caps off a busy few years for the Berlin-born, Mannheim-raised DJ and producer, following close to 20 releases on labels such as Cocoon, Mulen Records, Infuse, BodyParts, and, of course, Salty Nuts. Featuring Fabe’s signature loopy, insatiable grooves, the LP is a personal statement, flowing through his influences and touching on hip-hop-influenced beats, low-slung minimal, New York house, and much more. Although it’s a club-focused collection of tracks, Water Tower still warrants listening away from the dancefloor and is a high-quality summation of Fabe’s studio prowess.

You can pick up the LP here, with “Hoch Nie Wie” streaming in full below.
